August 8, 2015   Alesund Norway

We only had 60 miles to travel last night. We docked at Alesund at 7am.  It is Saturday so there was no rush to get off the ship upon arrival.

The day started off very cloudy with intermittent showers.

After a leisurely breakfast, I left the ship and bought a ticket for the Hop on Hop off bus.   It drove all around 4 of the islands that make up Alesund.  The whole trip was 1 1/2 hours.   I arrived back at 11:20am.  I reboarded the ship and went to the Lido for lunch.

In the afternoon I walked into the old town and took pictures of the art nouveau buildings in the city center.  The sun finally came out.  It is still cloudy but no rain.  The city is easy to walk around.   There is a great overlook on a hill near the city center.  Some people opted to walk the 400+ steps up and back.   Since it was a stop on the HoHo bus, I opted to ride up.

Tonight there is a Cellar Master Dinner which has been described as a  Celebration of Norwegian Cuisine.  It will be 6 courses with matching wines.  Of course, I signed up for it.

The dinner was very good.  We had fish soup, wild Atlantic cod, stewed lamb, Norwegian meatballs,  a cheese plate, and cake.  Each course had a matched wine.

  1. Great pictures, Elsie.Love the little gnome.A great souvenir to bring back if not too heavy. Looks like raincoats are a necessity on this cruise.
