July 13, 2016 – Santa Fe, New Mexico
We left Albuquerque at 8am Our first stop was Madrid, a small ghost town that was rejuvenated in the 1970’s when artisans moved in. We drove through the town and stopped at restrooms by a baseball field. We asked if we could just drive on to Santa Fe after everyone had used the facilities. Since everyone agreed, we drove on.
We got to Santa Fe at 9:30am. Leah bought us tickets for the New Mexico Museum of Art. We went through the museum. It was a great looking building on the outside but the collections were not very interesting. Earl, Linda, and I headed to the Georgia O’Keefe Museum. We watched a film about her life and then wandered through the museum. The museum contains many of her minor works since large museums and private collections have her most famous works.
We had lunch at “Bad Ass Sandwiches”. The sandwiches were very good. We sat out in a courtyard to eat. We talked about how pleasant the temperature was.
We walked toward our 1pm meeting place and went into a number of galleries. Some very nice and very expensive art in these galleries. By the time we met Leah and got to our hotel, we decided idea it was really hot out.
We went to the Cathedral of St. Francis and walked through its gardens. We walked around the town a little more but headed back to the hotel at 3pm to rest because we were all feeling the heat and the 7,000 ft altitude.
Tomorrow is our last day of the tour. We’ll be going to Taos during the day and returning to our Santa Fe hotel.
