We put our bags out at 7:30am and left Cernobbio both at 8:30am. Our bus driver is Federico. We got to Milan at 9:50am and walked to a park across from La Scala and waited for our guide. Anna Marie arrived in a few minutes and escorted us into La Scala. We were able to go in a box and take pictures. She then took us on a guided tour of the museum. It was very interesting.
Once outside we walked through the galleria which connects La Scala and the Duomo. The galleria contains all the famous Italian stores like Prada and Gucci. We were warned to keep our bags close to our bodies because there were woman who would steal them.
We came out to the main square and Anna Marie told us all about the Duomo. We were given an hour of free time. Some of our group went into the cathedral while others just walked around the city center. Carrie and I walked to the Sforza Castle and back.
We all met up at 12:30pm for lunch. We had bruschetta, pork mildness with salad, and ice cream with fruit.
The drive to Stresa took 1 1/2 hours. We were on a road above Lake Maggiore as we drove in and we were all oohing and aahing as it came into view. Our hotel is across the street from the lake and is a very, very, nice 4 star hotel. We met our main tour guide, Simona, when we arrived. She is a ski instructor in the winter and seems to have high energy.
Tomorrow we will have a walk around Stresa and a “Taste of Italy” discussion. The afternoon is free time so the 14 new arrivals can rest if they want. The rest of us may take gondolas to the top of the ski area for a great view of the lake.
