October 11, 2016 – Berlin
As I got the tickets out for Carol and I to see the Festival of Lights tonight I realized that our tickets were for yesterday. I emailed the company but they were sold out for tonight and basically said “too bad so sad”.
Today was rainy and cold with the high only 47° or 48°. We decided that it was a good day for museums. We first went to the Old National Gallery which houses art. Most impressive was the room containing French impressionists. After lunch we went to the Pergamon which contains the Babylon Ian Ishtar gate and the Miletus Market Gate among other antiquities.
Finally we went into the Berlin Cathedral and climbed up to the gallery outside the dome. Despite the rain, it was a great view of the city from up there.
After dinner we took the bus to see if we could see any of the buildings used in the festival of lights. The Brandenburg Gate had designs that were being given drawn on it real time. the TV tower had random colors while the Humboldt University had cartoonist yellow and green men running over the building.
No definite plans for tomorrow until we see the weather. It is our final day on Berlin. We both are getting up very early on Thursday morning to get to the airport so it will be an early night tomorrow.
