February 26, 2017 – Boca da Valeria, Brazil
On another cruise Connie and Joron met a family that I lives up the river. They invited Linda and I to join them for their visit.
We tendered into the town. As we got off we noticed 2 groups. One was men who wanted to take us up the river and back for $5 each. The other group was children. The children want to take you around their village. Most had an iguana, a parakeet, or a sloth. For $1 or $2 you can get a tour and take pictures of their animal.
We waited because our host, Tuka, was coming to pick us up. When he arrived, we got in his boat and went to his village. We toured the school and then went to his home. Only his 2 year old son and wife were at home. Communication was hard because none of us speak Portuguese and they don’t speak English. We saw their church and went to a hill from which we could see the ms Prinsendam.
Upon return to Boca da Valeria, we walked through the town to see the handicrafts for sale. After taking a picture of a toucan, Linda and I took a tender back to the ship. We were told that pink dolphins had been spotted. We watched and did see quite a few. Unfortunately they just come up for air and immediately go back down. It was impossible to get any pictures. They are very pink and the contrast to the brown river made them easy to spot. We noticed, also,
We are now headed for 2 days in Manaus. I’ll probably post both days blogs on the 28th. Only 13 days left on this cruise.

Do children keep sloths as pets? They look cuddly.
