March 1, 2018 – Tagus Cove
Once again we were up by 6am and loaded on the Zodiac by 6:30 am. We landed near a long set of stairs (125 steps). We climbed to the top and then continued hiking on a dirt path. We stopped at 2 view areas above Darwin’s Lake. We didn’t turn back until we got to a peak where we could see the other side of the island. We got back to the ship at 8:30am and had breakfast.
The ship was anchored in a caldera. At 10:30am we had our choice between kayaking and riding in a dinghy around the edge of the Calder. I chose the dinghy ride. We sailed around for an hour and saw lots of birds and sea lions.
After lunch was another chance to snorkel near Vincente Roca but I decided to stay in and rest.
After the ship started moving again, we were all invited to the bridge to see the GPS go to zero when we crossed the equator. Right before we got there, we spotted Orcas off the starboard side of the ship. After we passed the equator, 2 “pirates” came up to the bridge. We each had to imitate an animal of the Galapagos to “not be thrown overboard.” I did the land iguana.
We started moving again after dinner going to Isla Santiago. As we progressed in the open seas, the ride got very rough. We were all in bed by 9:30pm.
