August 15, 2018 – Pleasanton Ca – Getting Ready to Travel again

I am getting ready for my next trip.

On September 5th I am flying out of Oakland on Norwegian Air to Barcelona. I’ll be spending 3 nights there before boarding a 24 day Holland America cruise around the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas. On October 3, my big adventure will begin. I will be traveling by train to Florence by myself. This will entail 2 trains. I’ll be staying in Florence 3 nights before taking another 2 trains to get to Bern, Switzerland. After a 2 day stay in Bern, I’ll take a train to Lucerne to meet up with my Grand Circle Travel tour. I am doing their 4 day Lucerne pretour and then the GCT 16 day Rhine and Mosel river cruise from Basel to Antwerp. Finally, on October 26, I will be taking a train to Paris for a single night before flying back to Oakland on October 27.

Phew, just writing this down is tiring. This will be the first time that I will be traveling from place to place alone. By the time I get back I’ll know whether this type of travel is for me or not. I need to pack light in spite of being gone 2 months since I will be schlepping my bags onto and off of trains. My plan is to have one roller bag and a carry-on size backpack. The dilemma is what to pack. My usual clothing for a Holland America cruise is very different than my GCT clothing.

I am going to try to blog on a daily basis starting September 6 or 7. I am not sure if I’ll have WIFI available everywhere. I hope you will follow me on this adventure.
