September 10, 2018 – Marseille, France
Finally, I slept until 6:30am. When I looked outside ( by peering over the lifeboat), I saw we were sitting just outside the Marseille port. I went to the Dining Room for a leisurely breakfast. I heard a lot of grumbling from new cruisers who thought that going to the Dining Room would be quick. One couple left after I told them that there was no way to order and eat in 20 minutes unless they are in the Lido.
I got off the ship at 9am and paid $16 for a shuttle into town. This allows me to ride in and out all day. I found out later that if you walk down the pier a little there is a free shuttle. I met up with some Cruise Critic friends on the bus. Upon arrival in town we walked to the starting place for the HOHO bus. The first bus was at 10am so we had a 30 minute wait. As I boarded and tried to pay I was told I had to buy the ticket from the office across the street. I was afraid I wouldn’t get a good seat on top of the bus but it turned out everyone had to buy tickets. The ride was good. I sat in the first row on top. It was amazing to see how the bus maneuvered in the narrow streets with cars coming in the other lane.
After doing one complete circuit, I got off and walked around downtown. I was getting tired and hot so I found the shuttle and got back at 1pm.
After lunch I sat on the bed to read the newspaper. Next thing I knew it was 3pm.
I played trivia for the 1st time. Only 6 teams played. Not a blood sport like on other cruises.
To Earl – I got the question “what does NASA stand for” wrong. I had NAS but not the last A. Could have used you.
