September 17, 2018 – Corfu, Greece
The ship docked at 8am next to the Cunard Queen Victoria. I had decided to sleep in so after a dining room breakfast, I left the ship at 9:30am. There was a free shuttle to the port building. As I exited the building I realized that I had no idea what I was going to do. I got on a local bus that would take me to the old city center for 1.7 euro. When i got off the bus, there was a HOHO bus stop across the street. It looked like there are 2 HOHO companies. I paid one 19 euro but the other companies bus came first. They gave me a free “exchange” ticket and told me to get on the bus. First stop was the cruise port! We went through the old town, up past the old fort (built in1400’s) and through some of the new town. It was a very scenic ride. I got off at the new fort (built in 1500’s). It is a very large fort and I wandered around for an hour. As I waited for a bus to take me the rest of the way we were told the bus was delayed. Along came a bus from the original company and they said to get on. So I ended up riding both buses during this adventure. I got back to the ship around 1pm. It was very hot so I decided to eat lunch and rest up.
We get an hour back tonight.
Tomorrow we are in Dubrovnik from 9am to midnight. The ship is docking 4km outside town so they have a shuttle for $16 that will run every 30 minutes. The shuttle ticket is good for all day.
As we left Corfu, the Queen Victoria and the Oosterdam had a horn blowing contest. It was wonderful to hear.
