The ship docked a little before 10am in Split. The original itinerary said we would tender in but we lucked out and got a place in the pier. The bad news was that it was a long walk to the start of the city center. They said there would be free buses but they weren’t there when I got off.
I walked until I found a bench and a sign saying Berth16. I sent a message to my friend Ivana with the info of where i was and she came and found me. She does Croatia tours for Overseas Adventure Travel and other tour companies. She got to Split this morning and will be leading a group sailing around the Croatian Islands. We sat, sipped lemonade, and reminisced about the OAT tour that I took in May 2015. She showed me around Diocletian’s Castle and told me the history. She headed back to her boat and I spent another hour wandering around town. I was able to exchange most of my unused Croatian Kuna for Euros. It was very hot so I stopped for a beer down at the waterfront before heading “home”. I didn’t take many photos. I guess I was too busy talking to Ivana.
Tomorrow is Dubrovnik so I will be relaxing on board and only go off to the local market to spend my last 80 Kuna (about $12).
