October 15, 2018 – Strasbourg
After breakfast we set out in buses to drove the Alsatian Wine Road. We stopped at 10:30am in Riquewihr. We were surprised when they gave us 90 minutes to see the town since we were supposed to be back at the ship at noon. We sampled some Reislings and a Gewuertztraminer at Hugel at Fils founded in 1639. I bought a bottle of the Gewuertztraminer. The town has a medieval old town with cobble stone street and colorfully painted houses.
We saw stork nests in the town and while riding back there were 2 storks on top of phone poles.
We got back to the boat at 1pm. While we are lunch, there was an announcement that we would have some new deviation of the itinerary and there would be a meeting after lunch. At the meeting we were told that now we are disembarking tomorrow. Our daytime activities will not change but tomorrow night we will be on the River Harmony. Then we will spend 3 nights at a hotel in Luxembourg. Finally on Saturday we will go to the River Rhapsody for the last 6 nights of the trip.
This afternoon is being spent packing in a way that I don’t have to completely unpack before Saturday.
It could be worse, they tell us that the Danube is so low that all its river cruises are now bus tours.

Stork nest on chimney

  1. I was somewhere (Greece I think) there was this huge stork nest on the roof of a church and a stork family came back to the same nest every year, it was considered good luck. So a neighboring church built a stork nest to try to entice a stork family to their church, but it was never used.
