October 19, 2018 – Trier, Germany
We headed to Trier at 9:30am and arrived shortly after 10am. After the normal bathroom break, we met our local guide. He took us around the city for 1 1/2 hours showing us structures from Roman and Medieval times. He explained about the rivalry thru the middle ages between churches with each trying to be bigger or taller than the other. He was very funny. Karl Marx was born in Trier 100 years ago. They have a huge bronze statue of Marx that the Chinese had made and gifted to the city.
After the tour we had a group lunch in a local restaurant. Finally we had 1 1/2 hours to see the rest of the city center. We went to 3 of the churches to see the Interiors. Each was very different from the others. We had 2 options for getting back to the hotel. We could leave at 3pm or 4:15pm. We headed to the 3pm buses. After getting on the bus I realized that Carol wasn’t right behind us. She had been walking and talking with Ron, a fellow traveller from Florida. I texted her and she said they were lost. They held up our bus for a few minutes until Carol texted where they were. The program director said she would find them and make sure they got on the later bus. Our bus headed back. Carol texted that Simone had found them and again when she got to the hotel. . Carol has said she’ll be sticking close to me from now on.
After dinner we had a speaker talk about the rise of the Alt-right party in Germany. He was very interesting.
Tomorrow we spend the day touring Luxembourg City. We are also checking out of the hotel and getting on our 3rd river boat for our last 6 nights.

Thanks for the photos Elsie. That Roman ceiling is amazing!
