October 21, 2018 – Cochem, Germany
We took minivans from the boat to Reichsburg Castle. It was a very foggy morning. We had a guided tour of 7 rooms in the castle. It was originally built in the 1100’s but destroyed by French troops sent by Louis XIV. It was rebuilt in the 1800’s by a rich iron baron.
After the tour we took the minivans half way down and then walked down to the town. We got to try currywurst which is very popular throughout Germany. It was OK. When the group split up Carol and I went into a large tent where brass bands were playing in a music festival. We stayed for a few songs but left when they played “Bad, bad, Leroy Brown”.
Back at the ship, we had lunch and at 2:45pm started sailing out. This is the first time on this part of the trip that we sailed during daylight. We passed many small towns and went through three locks.
We had tour of the galley. It is amazing that they can make so many meals in such a small space.
At dinner, two of us brought bottles of Gewurtztraminer that we bought in the Alsace to compare. They were both very good.
Tonight for entertainment we had Karaoke Night. I am hoping it is the last one.
