Posted by Today is Christmas Eve. I awoke to find us moored next to Grytviken. This was once a Norwegian whaling town. It is now deserted but one building contains a museum. Shackleton’s grave site is in the cemetery. Down the road is the research center which has 35 researchers in the summer but only 17 over the winter months. We are not allowed to make a landing due to our Covid cases. They planned to do zodiak viewing tours but the winds were too strong so that got canceled.
They moved the ship to Godthul. After the expedition team checked the beaches we were told there was too much wildlife to land.
The ship was moved to Ocean Harbour. They sent out one Zodiak to an area that looked okay but the seals got aggressive so they loaded everyone back on the zodiak and switched it go a zodiak tour.
I didn’t go out at all today because I wrenched my knee yesterday getting off the zodiak at a beach. I’m hoping with rest it will be okay tomorrow.
