December 29, 2021 – Brown Bluff

We are so far south that we go from dusk to dawn in the matter of minutes.
I woke at 5am with sunlight coming through a small opening between my cabin drapes. When I looked outside all I could see was water and icebergs. The ship was stopped. At 8am they made an announcement that due to the amount of ice it would take another 8 hours to reach our next scheduled stop. After checking the weather forecast, they decided to change course to avoid getting iced in. We are proceeding through the ice field at 3 knots.
After breakfast I went up to the deck 8 lounge. From the outside deck I was able to see whales but it got crowded so I went down to my cabin and watched from my balcony. A large iceberg floated by with 2 emperor penguins on it.
After lunch, the ship stopped at Brown Bluff. They did a zodiak landing to a spot on the gravel beach. Still not feeling comfortable with my knee, I stayed on the ship. The sun was out the whole day and there was lots of ice to look at.

  1. I’ve never been interested in Antarctica but you have really changed my mind! I’m usually an OAT traveler but this looks so good. Love your pictures!
