June 30, 2022 – Blue Lagoon

This afternoon we went to the Blue Lagoon. It is about a one hour drive from Reyjavik. We had a choice of going into the water or just watching. Since my bathing suit is in my luggage, I decided to skip going into the water. Everyone going in the water was told to put conditioner on their hair and leave it on to protect their hair. They were also told to remove all silver and gold jewelry since the elements in the water would turn them black.
There were a few of us who opted to watch. We went to watch from an outdoor area next to the Lagoon. The water was a milky pale blue. People were walking around in chest high water. Many had a drink in their hands.
After seeing some of the people in our tour in the water, two of took a walk by the “cooler water” ponds outside the official Lagoon area. I took a few photos to show how the water looks without people.
Down the road from the Lagoon is a power plant which taking the geothermal energy from the springs and converts it into electricity and heat for the surrounding area.
We got back to the hotel about 530pm. I had a drink with a couple from Orinda, CA before heading back to my room.
The pre-trip has 29 people. Another 100 will be joining us tomorrow to start the main tour. Hopefully, we will hear about our luggage tomorrow.
