After breakfast we headed back to Lithia Park to find the Japanese Garden. We asked a man for directions. He told us how to get there but also told us that a fiddle camp concert would start in 30 minutes at the entrance to the park. Jan decided to go to the concert while Carolyn and I headed to the Japanese Garden.
The Garden just opened in October 2022. Some areas are still a work in progress. It was very peaceful. We headed back to find Jan. She was enjoying watching the children play their fiddles. We had passed a group playing classical music in the park so we convinced Jan to move from the children to the chamber music group. We listened for 20 minutes or so.
At 11am we headed back to the cottage. At 1pm I drove us up to Dana Campbell winery in the hills above Ashland. It was very lovely. We sat outside and each had a flight of 5 wines and shared a charcuterie plate. The wines were good. I bought some bottles to take home.
Back at the house we played a few last rounds of Quiddler.
At 5pm, Carolyn and I left to do some bar-hopping. Jan’s grandson and his girlfriend were coming to take her out to dinner.
Carolyn and I started at the Peerless Hotel restaurant. We sat at the bar and each had an Aperol Spritz. After we walked to Lark’s restaurant in the Ashland Hotel. Again, we sat at the bar. We had the special drink of the day which contained pear flavored vodka. It was very good. To end the evening, we went to Cocorico. This is a new restaurant on First Street. We shared a salad and an order of garlic bread. For our Entrees, we both chose the pasta carbonara. The food was delicious. We walked back to the cottage feeling very full.

July 1, 2023 – Ashland to Stoneridge Creek, Pleasanton CA
We left Ashland at 8:45am. The drive home was uneventful. We stopped for gas in Redding and had lunch in Orland. I drove the whole way and was home by 3:30pm.
We had a fabulous trip. I highly recommend a trip to Ashland.
Next up for me is a Road Scholar program in August about Buddhism, Qi Gong, and Vegetarian cooking. I won’t be blogging since there is no wifi at the facility. In mid-September I will be going to France. I will be blogging that trip. Stay tuned.
