While typing this, I am watching the 4th quarter of the 49er game. Please excuse any typing errors.
This morning we went to the Copan ruins.  It is considered to be one of the most important sites of the Mayan civilization. It was the capital of a major Classic period Kingdom from 500 AD to 900 AD.  It started raining when we arrived. We saw the burial pyramids of the Kings in an area called the Acropolis. As we walked through the complex we had to climb up huge steps made of rock. It was very difficult. The Hieroglyphic Stairway has a canvas covering suspended above it.  As the the rain got worse, we took cover there as our guide described the history of the stairs.  We left at noon to have lunch at the restaurant at the ruins.
At 1pm we had our choice to go to the museum or back t9 the hotel. Half of the group went back while half stayed.
At 3pm 12 of went to Macaw Mountain which is a bird rescue park.  It takes about an hour to walk the trail through the park.  Most of the birds are caged but many Macaws fly free.  They also breed Macaws and when old enough to fend for themselves are released.  We saw many different birds.   One parrot even said ‘Hola’ to us. The birds must be used to seeing  cameras because they would fly over to a branch near us when we got close.
Yeah 49ers won! On to the Super Bowl.
Tomorrow we leave at 8am for a 5 to 7 hour drive to Guatemala City.
