Only two ports before we get to Florida. Today we are in Portland Maine. It was very cloudy and the 8am temperature was 42°F. I did an excursion that began with a 2 hour bus tour of Portland. It is a nice small city with many large old homes down by the shoreline. In the middle of downtown is a watch tower built in the 1800’s to notify merchants when the ships delivering good were approaching. Practical New Englanders didn’t want to waste time waiting on the dock for their ships to arrive.
When we returned to the cruise port, we were scheduled to go out for a 1 1/2 hour schooner ride around the bay. Half of the bus decided that it was too cold and too wet to go on the schooner so they returned to our ship. I was in the group that decided to sail on the schooner. The seats were all wet and the rain continued for the whole time. It was a nice bay cruise but it would have been better if we’d been dry and warm.
Back on the ship I found out that Carolyn wasn’t feeling well and she and Jan had stayed on board all day.
Before dinner, Jan and I went to a Q&A with the Breton Thunder. It turns out that there are 2 Breton Thunder groups – One of our ship and the other on the Zuiderdam which also did the New England and Canada cruises this year. All band members must be Canadian.
Today is Canadian Thanksgiving so dinner was turkey and pumpkin pie.
Tomorrow is a sea day so unless something extraordinary happens I’ll take a day off from blogging.
