Today was our first full day of the tour. We started with a walk through the Times Square Theater district. It was raining so we tried to walk under overhangs as much as possible. Stephen, our guide, told us about the many theaters we walked past them. We went to the Museum of Broadway. It was wonderful. There were exhibits about many of the most famous shows. I loved Doc’s corner store from West Side Story.

We had bag lunches back at the hotel rather than the scheduled stop in Bryant Park because of the rain.

After lunch we had two speakers. The first was Annette Jolles telling us about directing for the stage. It takes 8 to 10 years to bring a show to Broadway and involves many steps. The director is involved through the whole process. The second speaker was Stella Bowles, the Literary Manager at 2nd Stage Theater, a not for profit Theater. Stella selects the plays they produce. She explained the process of finding new plays and working with the authors.

We had dinner at Havana Central. It was platters and platters of Cuban food served family style.

After dinner we saw “We Had a World”, an off Broadway show written by Joshua Harmon. It was a play about family dynamics and was both funny and sad.

The corn was as high as an elephants eye.
