Tuesday July 27 – Corner Brook,  Newfoundland

I had room service breakfast so I could get ready for the “In The Footsteps of Captain Cook” tour  at  8:15am

We rode in a bus all over the island with stops to meet lobstermen,  take pictures at scenic overlooks, and visit the Captain Cook Memorial.  This is my only ship excursion.  I’m not sure it was worth the money.  Over 2 hours of the 4 hour tour was spent riding on the bus.  The scenery was beautiful and I was able to take some photos. We did get to stop in the town called Blow Me Down.

Got back at 12:30 and had a chicken salad sandwich.  The Veendam still has the made-to-order sandwich station.  In addition, they have premade sandwiches further down the lido counter. The line for made-to-order sandwiches is shorter than I have experienced before.

After lunch, I walked into town.  Not much there so I headed back to the ship and the Thermal Suite.  After a relaxing time on the heated loungers and a steam bath, I headed to Trivia.  Didn’t win.

For those wondering,  the Thermal Spa/Thermal Suite is an extra charge area where there are heated tile loungers, steam bathes, and a hot tub.  It is very relaxing.

The show tonight was four men who sing current songs in Big band style.  It was pretty bad.

Tomorrow we will be in Red Bay Labrador.

  1. Thanks for sharing this trip. AND, a particular thanks for sharing how often you use and enjoy the thermal suite! Taking extended cruise on sister ship to Antarctic, and now planning on getting thermal pkg on embarkation. Enjoy your cruise. Judi

  2. You visited a place called Blow Me Down and you were “not sure it was worth the money?” Hell, for me, that would have been worth the cost of the entire trip!
