RED BAY LABRADOR

Wednesday July 29, 2015 – Red Bay, Labrador

Red Bay is the first tender port.

I woke up at 7:50am as they were announcing that the first tenders were ready for anyone wanting to go ashore.   I looked out on my verandah and could not see anything.  It was foggy and raining,    I dressed and went to breakfast in the dining room.

At 9:30am I was dressed for the elements and went to get my priority tendering ticket.  After boarding the tender,  I noticed that the rain was coming in at the door space.  As we sailed toward Red Bay, the pilot had to stand up and stick his head out of hatch to see where we going. We passed 2 icebergs on the way in.

Red Bay is a small, quaint town. Many Basque families live here.  This was a big whaling town at one time. Despite the pouring rain, the black flies were prevalent. I walked around the town and then tendered back to the ship. One of the flies got into my hair and bit my scalp. I was back on board by 11:15am.

We will sail out at 3pm and head for Greenland.   Tomorrow is another Sea Day and a Gala (formerly known as Formal) Night.

I’m not sure that I mentioned this – on the 1s sea day we moved our watches ahead one hour at noon . The 2nd day we moved them ahead 1/2 hour, again at noon. The rational behind changing at noon is that the crew would lose an hours sleep if the did the change at night.

Note to friends and family,  I am blogging alot about things on the ship because I have 50+ people following my blog from Cruisecritic.com.
