August 18, 2015  Seydisfjordur Iceland

It is another clear day as we sail in.  Overnight, it was quite foggy and the ship’s fog horns were sounding all night.  We will arrive at 10 am and the outside temperature now (8:3030am) is 45 degrees Farenheit.   They tell us that the high will be 50.

I put on my layers, grabbed my trekking poles and headed out.   I met up with my friend Elizabeth and we decided to walk through town and  head for a hike up the mountain.  There are many colorful houses in the town including one that has pictures painted by a local folk artist.   The church is a pale blue color and is beautiful inside.  We finally found a trail head and started hiking up.  It was quite steep. We hiked until the ridge line and stopped when we kept meeting people coming down who gave us warnings that it was wet and steeper above so we went back into town.

I had lunch in a local cafe. Carrot soup and a beet salad. They were delicious.   I decided to hike up to the waterfall.  It was an easy climb.   A lot of the crew were hiking to the falls too.

Sailaway was at 5:30pm and as we exited the fjord a large fog bank engulfed the ship.  It cleared around 10pm and I  watched for Northern lights since we finally crossed the Arctic Circle but no such luck.

Tomorrow is Akureyri and an 8 hour tour.
