Torshaven, Faroe Islands

August 17, 2015 Torshavn, Faroe Islands

The sail in to Torshavn was beautiful.  The day was sunny and we passed many islands on the way in.    We moored at the industrial port and had to take a shuttle to the port gate.  The Information center was there and it was only a few blocks from the town.   30 of us had previously arranged to be picked up and taken to Vestmanna to take a boat out to the cliffs to see puffins.  They picked us up in 2 vans and we had a very scenic ride.   The boat ride was 2 hours.   We had to wear hard hats because we went in and out of the cliff openings and there was a possibility of falling rocks.  We could see the puffins but it was difficult to photograph them because the boat was rocking alot.   We were told that we had unusual weather because they only get 3 or 4 days this clear each year.

We got back to Torshavn at 1pm so I walked around the town a little before returning to the ship.   Sailaway was 3pm and we sailed past many more islands on the way out.

Tomorrow we are back in Iceland – Seydisfjordur.   It is on the northeast corner of the island.

  1. When we meet again I want you to teach me how to pronounce the names of
the Icelandic cities. As always, you created a feeling of actually “being there.”

Delighted that you are achieving such a level of enjoyment.
