August 23, 2015 Nanotalik Greenland

This is a very small town on the southern part of Greenland. Tendering started at 7am and the on board time was 12:30pm.  Many passengers had breakfast and waited to go ashore until 9am since it was Sunday and nothing would be open earlier.  I went in at 8:30am and only had a 10 minute wait to be called.   They started with all 4 tenders but one overheated and had to be pulled from tender duty by 9:30 people filled all the lounges. I heard later some waited 1 1/2 hours for their tender number to be called.  At 10am the Captain came on the intercom and explained the situation and apologized but many are still angry.

I walked the length of the town in 20 minutes stopping to take pictures. The Tourist information / souvenir shop was very crowded.  There are 2 churches, 2 grocery stores, a community center, and an open air museum.  I was back on the ship 45 minutes after I left it because it  was raining and I had seen all I wanted to see.

I went to the 2nd Cellar Master Dinner and all 5 courses were delicious.  All the wines were from France and matched the food perfectly.

We are now sailing to St. Johns Newfoundland.  The Captain has said that the rest of the trip may have rainy weather.

  1. We loved this village and its people. After touring the folk museum village we went to a show put on by the residents and enjoyed their Greenland cake. The children were very active and adorable Too bad it rained. When you are only staying a few hours, one tender down is annoying.

  2. We loved this port, too. Met Connie who told us how good the show was and are so glad we took her advice and went. I recorded the singers singing Amazing Grace. Beautiful! There were eight singers and eight harmonies. Young to old in the group. Loved them!
We had to wait an hour for the tender. As a lowly three star mariner, it was the one time status seemed to matter, lol.
Love your blog, Elsie! I didn’t know the captain had explained the situation. We must have been on land at the time.

  3. We went to the church service. It was all in a language we couldn’t understand, but basically followed a Lutheran order of worship. The church was filled with adults and small children. I guess the elementary and teens were at the folk show.
