March 5, 2016 – Melbourne to Adelaide
After breakfast we headed off to the airport. Our flight lasted only 1 hour and we landed at 11:05am. We had to turn our watches back 1/2 hour.
After getting our bags we headed out to our bus and took off for Cleland Wildlife Park. We got here at noon and had lunch. By the time we started wandering around the zoo, the temperature was closing in on 105°. It is a large zoo with fields of wallabies and Kangeroos that you can wander through. There are also animals like dingos that are in enclosures but couldn’t be seen due to the heat. We were given 1 1/5 hours to roam but most of us were done in by the heat after 1 hour. We have been warned to always wear a hat, put on sunscreen, and drink lots of water.
Headed to the hotel and arrived at 4pm. We are having a home-hosted dinner tonight and I am team leader for 7 of us. We each bring a small gift from home. My group decided to also bring wine to share. My gift is a zippered bag with the Golden Gate Bridge on it.
We were taken by minibus to our hosts home. She is a single woman named Antoinetta. She had a friend named Ann there to help. She loves in a small house in the west part of Adelaide. She also rents a room out through AirBnB. Her renter today was a young woman who is here for the Adelaide Fringe Festival. We had a lovely time exchanging stories of travel and past careers. Antoinette made us a delicious meal with Moroccan meatballs over pasta, and cauliflower salad. For dessert she made us affogate. (Ice cream with coffee poured over it). Our 2 hour visit was over too quickly.
Tomorrow we will have a 1 hour talk with an aboriginal. The rest of the day is open but 9 of us are heading out for a wine tasting tour. The high tomorrow is supposed to be 39° C. (I’ll let you do the math). Hot is hot!

  1. OMG! 108 degrees?? Is that unusual for this time of year? Here on the east coast we’ve gotten another snowstorm (hopefully the last of the season!) so everything is white again.

Thanks for allowing all of us to follow you on this adventure! BTW, you have a great eye for photos!

  2. Can’t believe how hot it is, Elsie! Is it humid too? No wonder the animals hide. Great pictures of the ones you could find. Stay cool.
