June 26, 2016 – Devils Tower and Sheridan WY
We left the hotel at 8am. Our first stop was a information  center and they had many cool fake photo opportunities. We then

drove to Devils Tower and arrived at 10:45am. We did a 1.3 mile hike around the base and saw some climbers on their way up.
We drove to Gillette WY for lunch. On the way we passed the largest strip coal mining production in the country. Leaving after lunch a car thought that our bus had cut him off so he got in front of us and slammed on his breaks. Our driver skillfully pulled to the shoulder and stopped. The man did this again. His car had no license plate but our tour leader called it in anyway. The man finally did a u-turn to got the other way. This was on Interstate 90.
The rest of the ride to Sheridan was uneventful. We arrived at 5pm. Linda and I walked around town but since it is Sunday everything is closed. The one oddity is that the Wells Fargo Bank here is the largest bank that I’ve ever seen. It is half a block long and looks like it could be town hall.
For dinner we went to the historic Sheridan Inn. At one time it was the biggest hotel between Chicago and San Francisco. Buffalo Bills Cody joined us for dinner and told us the history of the hotel and Buffalo Bill.
Tomorrow we are going to the site of the Battle of Little Bighorn and then on to Cody and a visit to the Buffalo Bills Center of the West.

  1. I somehow missed some info…what company are you traveling with? Is it the GCT national parks tour? I’m off on the voyage of the Vikings July 20, thanks to your blog last summer!

  2. Hi Elsie! Sounds like a great trip so far (except for the wacko driver messin’ with the bus driver.) 😮 We were in Cody 28 years ago. Neat place. I’ll bet it’s changed a lot. Enjoying your blog!

  3. Hi Elsie,
You are certainly in shape with all the hiking and walking you do . Cody was one of my favorite places because we saw groups of wild horses roaming. Also we saw a rodeo…I knew I was in a different culture when the announce said several of the riders were going to college on a rodeo scholarship.Have fun !
