June 29, 2016 – Yellowstone National Park
We were supposed to leave at 8am but 2 people, a father and his15 year old son, weren’t at the bus. Leah, our tour leader, called their room. They thought today was a free day and they were sleeping in. They made it to the bus by 8:15am and we were on our way.
First stop was the Norris Geyser Basin. We hiked around Porcelain Basin and then hiked to Steamboat Geyser. It last erupted in 2014. Today was not its next eruption but it was still pretty active.
We next drove up to Mammoth Hot Springs. As we drove we saw bison and elk in the distance. When we got to Mammoth we saw 6 elk laying in front of the hotel. We ate a quick lunch and hiked around the lower Terrace Area.
At 2pm we started back stopping at the Canyon area. We went to Artists Point which is where you see the famous view of Yellowstone Falls and the yellow stones of the canyon.
After dinner we went to the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in W. Yellowstone and got to see the bears, wolves, and raptors. Finally, we watched the IMAX movie “Yellowstone”.
Tomorrow we got to Grand Teton and will be staying in Jackson Hole for 2 nights.
