January 4, 2017 – At Sea on way to Isla de Providencia, Colombia
Last night Linda and I dined at the Canaletto which is the Italian restaurant onboard. The food and service was very good.
I sleep best when the temperature in the room is low. I turned my thermostat all the way down and the temperature when I woke up was 67°. I heard others grumbling today that they couldn’t get their rooms lower than 78°. I hope mine stays cool when we move into warmer climates.
I struggled with the internet to post yesterday’s entry and went to bed at 11:30. I woke this morning at 6am and decided to get my closet organized. The pictures below are of my cabin. You can see that the closet is packed.
Today I am going to meet the hosts from Cruise Specialists (my travel agency). They are available if we have any problems and they will host cocktail parties during the cruise.
After breakfast Linda and I walked a mile around the outside deck. Getting back to my room, I realized I hadn’t put my Fitbit on. Does this mean it doesn’t count?
I went to the Singles and Solos lunch. It was fun meeting others who are making this trip on their own.
Linda and I went to trivia at 1pm. Out of 36 possible points, we scored 14. In our defense, the winning team only had 22 points. The questions were very obscure but we still had fun. Really, how many people know what year the Radar Range was invented.
Tonight was our first “Gala” night. This used to be formal night but they have loosened the dress code. I wore a sparkly top and black, pants. The menu is always a step up on Gala nights and this was no exception – escargout, steak and shrimp, and chocolate souffle for dessert. Outside the dining room they had dressed penguins in formal wear. (See picture)
On Gala nights, those of us taking the whole 67 day cruise receive pillow gifts. I got a tote bag, an umbrella, and note cards all with the Grand South America logo. Earlier today I received a vest and a small tote bag from my travel agent. I am hoping I have enough room in my luggage to get this all home.
Tomorrow is another sea day.j

  1. NICE stateroom. For this long of a trip, you have packed well. Good luck with getting the added ‘goodies’ AND souvenirs home. Smart to have sent bags ahead.

    1. Inquiring minds want to know…what year was the radar range invented?
Hadn’t thought about shipping the suitcases…does HAL take care of that on grand voyages?

  2. Off to a good start! You look settled in already with a closet full of clothes. Beautiful room. I’d say you are set for the time of your life! (And btw, I think you’d have gotten along just fine w/o ever knowing when the Radar Range was invented!)
