January 6, 2017 – Isla de Providencia, Colombia
Last night I started a cold and by morning it was a full blown cold. I cancelled my snorkeling excursion. Before leaving Ft. Lauderdale I stocked up on every kind of cold medications. I’m taking Zicam and Day quil. I decided I will take it easy since on Tuesday Linda and I are headed to the Galapagos Islands.
Around 9am Linda and I took the tender into the island. The tender ride took 25 minutes. The town is very small with only 3 or 4 stores.. The stores are for the islanders and not for tourists. 3 blocks from the dock is a bridge to Santa Catalina island. We crossed the bridge and turned right. We saw many nice Christmas decorations. We walked until the sidewalk ended at a large cannon left front the days of buccaneers. Turning around we went to the other end of the island and went up a staircase which had a statue of Mary at the top. Further ahead was another staircase down to a beach. We decided that it was too hot so we headed back to the tender dock. While walking we saw many colorfully painted houses.
Back on board by noon, we had our first Dive-in meal of this trip. I had my usual 1/2 notdog and 1/2 of a hamburger. Yum.
Spent most of the afternoon resting.
Played trivia at 4pm and 7pm. Didn’t come in first 3 places at 4pm but tied for first at 7pm. Lost on the tie breaker though. Hardest question was What NY band whose 4 original members are all dead had an emblem that looked like the presidential seal?
Dinner service has been very slow so we decided to try the Lido tonight. The wine steward had to go to the dining room to get my open wine bottle and that took a while.
Tonight the entertainment was Puck, a magician who was a semi-finalist on America’s Got Talent. He was very good and very funny.
Someone asked about shipped luggage. Holland America ships 2 bags for Grand Voyages if you book in certain cabin categories. You can get more info on the HAL website. It was nice to be able to pack more for this trip than usual.
Just got my info for the Galapagos trip next Tuesday. Sunday we go through tne Panama Canal. On Monday I need to pack for my 4 days off the ship.
Tomorrow I am going to the Jaguar Rehabilitation Center where it turns out they have no jaguars. It was named after the first animal they rehabilitated. They have plenty of other animals to keep us amused.

Visa answer:  I used Travisa and got mine in August.

  1. Love the pictures! I hope your cold is much shorter in duration than mine. I’m on day 13 of mine. Of course, I’m sitting here watching the snow pile up, and you’re in nice warm weather. That should make a big difference for you. Feel better quick!
