January 10, 2017 – Flying to the Galapagos Islands
I went to bed last night at 11:30pm. I set my alarm for 3:40am. When I woke up I felt like I’d had no sleep. They served a nice breakfast buffet at 4am but I was so tired that I only are a container of yogurt. We all met in the Showroom to get our passports. it took awhile to get them handed out so we finally left on the bus for the Guayaquil Airport. Both checked and carryon bags had to be x-rayed. They are looking for fresh food and nuts and seeds. We all passed. We flew 1 1/2 hours to Baltra Airport which is on an uninhabited island. After all the checked bags were checked by a dog, we were able to get our bags. The bus took us to a ferry where they just throw you luggage on top. We sailed over to Isla Santa Cruz. We were split into 2 groups and boarded small buses. We were take to a Highland Chato where we are lunch and then hiked around seeing giant tortoises. It is breeding season so we also saw a little of that too. We walked through a lava tunnel which was made when this part of the island was seismicly active. We left the giant tortoises and traveled to the coast. Some people went to the Charles Darwin Research Center while others, like me, headed to the hotel to get a little rest.
At 7pm we had dinner at the hotel and then everyone headed to their rooms to get a good night’s sleep.
Wifi is slow and disconnects frequently. I will try to post pictures but they may have to wait until I am back on the ship.
We are being split into 2 groups again tomorrow. My group will go to Seymour island while the other group goes to Plazas Island. We will hike, have lunch, swim or snorkel before returning to the hotel. On Thursday the group will each go to the other island.

  1. I loved the Galápagos Islands. Makes me smile seeing the pictures of the giant tortoises. Glad you’re having a good time.

  2. Enjoying your blog. Some of your earlier posts have disappeared and apparently some pictures too. Others mention pictures of your cabin, for example, but I couldn’t find it.

  3. Thanks for all the info we are planning to do the Grand South America and Grand Mediterranean in 2019 if we don’t do the World Cruise 2019
