January 13, 2017 – Going back to the ship
We were told to meet at 8am to head to Baltra Airport. Everyone was on time. We were divided into two buses and set off to the same port we had gone to the last 2 days. We had a brief stop to view two collapsed craters. When we got to the port we boarded the ferry which took us across the bay to get a bus to the airport. It was 10:30 by the time we got to the airport and checked in for our 12:30pm flight to Guayaquil.
This flight was uneventful. We arrived in Guayaquil and we’re met by people from the tour company who gave us box lunches. We were told they had our tickets and we needed to drop off our checked bags and go through security. Security confiscated the juice boxes from our lunch bags.
After security we had to go through Ecuadorian Immigration even though we were leaving. For some reason they were very confused by the fact that we were going to a ship after landing in Lima. Eventually we got on the plane.
We landed in Lima at 8:15pm. The first stop was Immigration. They directed Linda and I to a line. In front of us were 10 people. Our line moved very slowly. We watched others from our group who were behind us get processed. When there were only 3 people in front of us, the inspector went to dinner. They pointed us to another inspector who spent 10 minutes getting set up. We finally got processed at 9:40pm. We went to baggage claim where our group leader had pulled our luggage off the ramp. We found out we weren’t the last. We had to have our bags x-rayed and then met the tour company reps. We got divided into two groups – Machu Pichu & Back to the ship. We got on the bus to go to the ship and at 10:30pm arrived back at the ship. The hotel manager and cruise director were waiting to greet us. We were given champagne and warmly welcomed back.
I got to my cabin. Checked that my excursion the next morning was at 7:45am and quickly went to sleep.
The picture is a blue eyed dove, I think. I really don’t remember. It was having out by the collapsed craters. Rosie – any idea what kind of bird?

  1. Oh I was happy to see your bird picture. I looked it up and thanks to your great photo I was able to identify it as the aptly named : Galapagos Dove. Your trip sounds busy, fun and interesting. Hope your back to your normal good health soon.
