January 23, 2017 – At Sea
I had breakfast today with three members of my trivia team. Joron and Connie are from Sweden and Sally is from Montana. They travel in the winter to get away from the dark and cold. This is Juron and Connie s 4th time around South America.
We get a 8 page New York Times that the ship prints every day. I spent the morning reading it and doing the crossword puzzle. After lunch, we played trivia and won with only one wrong answer. Yea! The best question was “Before nylon was used to make women’s stockings, what common item used by most travelers was it used for?”
CruiseSpecialists, my travel agents, had a dinner for the 47 of their clients in the Canaletto tonight. It was good way to meet more people.
January 24, 2017 – Castro, Isla Chiloe
Woke up to an overcast day. We are moored a short way from the dock in Castro, Isla Chiloe. The island is the 2nd largest island in Chile. Castro is its largest city with 29,000 residents.
After tendering in, we walked up steep hill to the town square where a very colorful church stands. The town itself looks tired. We walked around downtown and then headed down another steep street to look for the famous houses on stilts. We realized that the best view of these would be from the ship. We found the large artesian market but neither Linda nor I found anything we wanted or needed. We headed back to the ship at 10:30am.
The next two days we will be doing scenic cruising through the Chilean fjords and the Darwin channel. As we travel south I will try to keep the blog up to date but I am dependent on wifi availability.
Answer to the trivia question is toothbrush.
