January 28, 2017 – Glacier Alley and Cape Horn
This morning we sailed through Glacier Alley. We passed the Romanche, Alemania, Francia, Italia, and Holanda Glaciers. It was very windy out on deck but the temperature was still in the mid to upper 50s.
We sailed past Ushuaia at 11am and are headed toward Cape Horn.
Last night’s entertainment was a classical guitarist named Michael Christian Durrant . He was excellent and gave a special matinee performance at 2pm today.
At 4:45pm Cape Horn was in front of our ship. I had not realized that it was an island. There is a lighthouse and a home on the island. There are no trees. There is a memorial that is shaped like an albatross that can be seen from the sea. We slowly sailed completely around Cape Horn. It was windy out on deck but the sea was fairly smooth.
Tonight is the Chinese New Year celebration on board. I went to the Pinnacle Grill for a special Taste of Asia dinner. It was very good.
Tomorrow we are in Ushuaia.
Quick note, my cold is finally over. I am off all medications and my appetite is back. It has been a long 3 week ordeal but I finally feel like myself again.

  2. So glad you are feeling normal again. Such a bummer to be ill on a trip. Congrats on rounding Cape Horn! That’s a Big Deal says a reader of many sea adventure novels…fiction and non-fiction.
