May 9, 2017 – Trip around British Isles

I had planned on flying to London this Saturday to start my Grand Circle Travel cruise around the British Isles and Ireland.   On Monday May 8, I received an email that our tour was cancelled.  The ship we were to sail on has mechanical problems that couldn’t be resolved in time for our tour.  I cancelled my flights.  GCT is refunding all my money including the airline fees for flights I booked.

Now my next trip isn’t until late September when I’ll be on a GCT bus tour of the Canadian Rockies.

I have cancelled my reservation for the 2018 World Cruise.  Trying to travel and maintaining 80 year old house is too hard for me.  I am planning on downsizing and moving into a senior community early next year.  It will be easier for me to take off whenever I want living in an apartment.

I’ll post when I take off again.

  1. Sorry to hear you won’t be leaving for your next adventure but it sounds like you have your hands full. Sorry to hear you won’t be going on the world cruise but happy to hear you will be visiting my neck if the woods in September. Enjoy the summer!

  3. So sorry to hear that. Were you going to be on the Corinthian? A friend was doing the gct Spain trip a few months ago and she was switched from Corinthian to Cleo.

  4. We have booked this trip for 2018. We avidly followed your blog and have learned many little things that will help us enjoy our voyage better.
    Thank you, so much!
After reviewing your blog again, I still have a few detail questions, if you would be so kind.

You mention a segment from FLL to Buenos Aires and then a second segment from there back to FLL (?). I assume you received some ‘free’ internet minutes in your package, did you get additional minutes for each segment?

How many “Gala” nights did you have? I see you listed 7 ‘events’, can you remember how many more there were? From HAL web site, it seems that they are relatively relaxed (compared to Cunard) on the dress code, but wife want to dress up a little (I know that includes me) for those nights.

We just completed a World Voyage on the Queen Elizabeth, 29 “Formal” nights! Sorry to read you had to cancel your World Voyage for 2018.

  5. I’m terribly sorry, I posted this comment on the British Island page instead of the South America page
