February 25, 2018 – Quito
After breakfast five of us decided to take taxis to the cable car that goes up Cruz Limo.  The cable car ride takes 15 minutes and ascends from 10,000 ft to 12,000 ft.  I sat with my back to the view but took pictures over my shoulder. Since the car holds 6 they put a very nice S. Korean man in with us.  He is consulting to banks in Ecuador and has been here a year.
When we got to the top I noticed for the first time the effects of altitude.  I was slightly dizzy and it was hard to breathe.  We were up there for 2 hours.  I spent the last 45 minutes sitting down while 3 others went off for a hike. I felt instantly better when we got down to 10,000 ft again.

We found a taxi to take us to the handicraft market. When we said we need 2 taxis, he said we would all fit.  Yvonne, Nyla, and I sat on the back seat with Kathie on Yvonne and Nyla’s lap.   Calvin sat up front.   We were all glad when we got to the market.
We spent a half hour at the market and then had lunch.  We walked back to the hotel arriving at 3:30pm.   I spent time packing for our trip to the Galapagos tomorrow.
At 5:30pm we had a meeting and learned about what to bring to the Galapagos and what we need to leave for our return to Quito.  Our schedule in the morning is rough:
3:30am wakeup call
4am bags out and continental breakfast available
4:20 on bus
6:30am flight to Guayaquil then onto the Galapagos
I’ll be in bed once I post this.   No more posts until I get back from the Galapagos on March 6th.

  1. Your picture of the Iguanas is intriguing. If the big one is the male it looks like he robbed the cradle. Today my thrill was sighting a red wing blackbird who followed us to two spots on my creek walk with Sherla.
I’ve cruised on Holland America to Alaska, the Panama Canal and Tahiti. Your trip on H.A. sounds good. I would love to spend 3 days in Florence to see David. I’ve never done a river cruise. That’s an incredible packed trip. Elsie, you know how to have fun!
    Looking forward to your return…
