September 24, 2018 – Sarande, Albania
Another beautiful day. We moored in the bay outside Sarande. The tender ride into the town dock took about 8 minutes. I had decided to do a ships tour. We started in town with a visit to the ruins of 500 a.d. Jewish Synagogue. Next was a walk along the seaside promenade. The bus picked us up at the end and we drove for 40 minutes to the Blue Eye National Park. This park has springs where the water bubbles up making large circles on the surface. They say it is very pure and good for you. They have nice paths to hike around the river. We were there for an hour. Last stop was just outside Sarande on top of a mountain. We drove up through many switch backs to arrive at Lekursi Castle. There were great views in every direction. We saw fires in the farms which were controlled fires of the old corn plants.
Albania is made up of 77% mountains and 23% plains. The plains contain many farms both with planting as well as cows and lambs.
Tomorrow is Olympia, Greece. I have decided to stay on board since I’ve been there before. I’m renting a cabana and will enjoy being catered to by 2 cabana boys.
