September 26, 2018 – Souda, Crete
Last night was quite rough. For the first time this trip I put on a seasi knees spot.
Woke up to the first rain of the trip. The good news was that the temperature was going to be cooler.
I went on an excursion. We were lucky that the rain had stopped before we began. First stop was the British Commonwealth War Cemetery. This is where over 1,500 British, Australian, and New Zealand soldiers from WW2 are buried. The Greek government keeps it up asf a thanks for saving them from the Nazis.
Our second stop was the Monastery of Aria Triads, the largest monastery on Crete built in 1600’s with additions in the 1800’s.
Lastly we went to the Old Town of Chiana where we strolled through the marketplace and the harbor.
A woman I met at the casino, Eleanor, invited me to join her and her friends in the Canaletto for dinner. There were 7 of us and 2 brothers, 3 sister-in-law, and Eleanor. It was interesting to see how much it was like a gathering of the Mallonee family.
Tomorrow is our sea day. I will be getting my Silver Medallion for 300 days of sailing on Holland America.
