October 4, 2018 – Florence
I was so tired by the time I got to Florence yesterday that after dinner I put on my Pjs and got in bed at 6pm to do yesterday’s blog. I was asleep by 9pm.
Today I woke at 3:30am. I slept on and off until 6am and finally got up. I am staying at Hotel Duomo Firenze which is right on Piazza Duomo. The reception is on floor 4. My room is on the 3rd floor and is a economical single room – single bed, closet, desk, small bathroom. All for approx. $150 per night breakfast included through booking.com The room works for me.
Breakfast was extensive. Hot milk, coffee, cappuccino, eggs, cheeses, meats, pastries, fruit, and breads.
After breakfast I set out to find where my 11am tour started. I found it and after wandering around stopped for a cappuccino at an outside cafe. 5.50 Euro. Wow! In Civitavecchia, it was 1.20 Euro. Location, location, location.
My tour was 1 1/2 hours at the Uffizi Gallery, 3 hour walking tour of Florence, and 1 hour tour of Accademia to see Michelangelo’s David. It was a great tour. Alla was a fantastic guide. My fitbit says I walked over 18,000 steps.
I returned to the same restaurant as last night for dinner. I had pappardelle with wild boar sauce. Very good.
So far I am having fun but realize that I would rather be traveling with someone else. It is fun to share my travels with you but having someone with me would be better.
Tomorrow’s tour is a cooking tour.
Just got word that my river cruise is being modified due to low water levels in the Rhine River. We will start on one boat and midway move to a hotel for 2 nights then be loaded onto second boat. Should still be fun.

Your description and beautiful photos make me want to be there (well, except for the cost of cappuccino)! I only spent a few hours in Florence years ago — Florence and Pisa in 1 day as a cruise stop. Clearly not enough time!
Really enjoying your blog.
