October 10, 2018 – Lucerne
After breakfast I took my dirty laundry to a place that Rick Steve’s recommended. $23 for wash, dry, and fold. I am not sure how much you can get done for that price but I had 4 tee shirts, 6 pair of socks, 4 undies, and 1 pair of slacks. The program director said to wait until we get on the boat but I am running out of clothes. The weather continues to be in the 70’s. I packed for cool fall weather so my warm weather clothes are limited. My clothes will be ready by 5pm.
At 9am Carol, Tom, and I went to the TI to get 2 day museum passes. This gets us into 8 museums. It costs $36 but since each museum is between $18 and $30 to get in, it saves us money. We then headed to the lion sculpture because they had not seen it yet.
Next we went to the Glacier Museum. The first part is all about how the mountains were formed by glaciers. The second part was a house with fossils and rooms showing furniture from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. After all this serious science and history we came upon the Alhambra Mirror Maze. There are 90 mirrors that make you think each hallway is very long but they aren’t. I had my trekking poles with me so I didn’t do a face plant into any mirrors. It was fun to turn around and see 3 or 4 Carols behind me, After we exited, they had carnival type mirrors to make you look tall or short or fat. The final parts of the museum were a chalet and an observation tower.
As we exited, we saw that another museum was just down 2 blocks. So we walked down to the Bourbaki Panorama Museum. It is circular building holding a painting in the round that documents the 87,000 French Soldiers who sought sanctuary in Switzerland after the Franco-Prussian war. They also have a movie explaining the history. It was very interesting.
We then set out to climb the city wall. My knee was bothering me so I begged off and headed back to the hotel. On the way I found a outdoor restaurant and stopped for lunch. After pizza and beer, my knee was recovered but I decided I should still take it easy. After a short break at the hotel, I went to the Rosengart Art Collection. The Rosengart family were good friend of Picasso so much of the museum is filled with his works. They also have 125 works by Klee. Smaller collections by Monet, Cezanne, Matisse, Chagall, Leger, and others are also shown. After touring both the Picasso and Klee museums on this trip, this was especially nice to see.
At 5pm I picked up my laundry. It is now wonderfully clean.
Tomorrow, I’m going to go to Richard Wagner’s house.

As always, enjoying your blog and photos, Elsie! What a great trip this is! Thanks for sharing it with us!
