October 18, 2018 – Bernkastel
I had a comfortable night’s sleep at the Double Tree Hotel in Luxembourg. Breakfast was a buffet in a private room. We headed to Bernkastel at 9am. It was a 90 minute drive so first stop was the restrooms. The weather was cool and overcast. Finally a day in the 60s. We had a one hour walking tour where we were heard about the history of the city and the Mosel wine industry.
We only had an hour for lunch so we rushed up to a biergarten and cafe. The restaurant had a terrace that overlooked the River. We all had schnitzel and it was very good.
We joined the grou0 again right before 1pm to walk to our wine tasting. We sat on benches in the wine cellar and tasted one pinot noir and three Reislings. The winemaker talked about the differences and explained the picking process for the different variations. It was very interesting,
Finally we had an hour and a half to wander around town. After an ice cream cone we just walked around until it was time to leave.
After dinner  we had a speaker talk about the European Union.
