March 11, 2019 – Cartagena, Spain
When we got off our ship the MSC Sinfonia was moored next to us. This was the first port we have had to share. We are only in port today until 2pm.
Our tour started at 9:30am. Our local guide was Trinidad. We first took a 30 minute bus tour of the city. Next was a walking tour to see the Roman ruins. They believe the whole city is on top of a Roman City. They have one area that has Roman baths, a banquet hall, and a temple. As a treat we were given the Cartagenian version of an Irish coffee. It was espresso, condensed milk, and a brandy called “43”. It was very good but a lot of alcohol for 11am.
Finally we went to the Roman amphitheater. It was found in 1988 when removing a house that was falling apart and no owners came forward. It is one of the 5 largest Roman amphitheaters in Spain.
Our tour ended at noon. I walked back to the boat rather than wait for our bus at 12:30pm.
We sailed out at 2pm.
They seem to think we are starving. Lunch today was from 1 to 2pm. High Tea was served at 4:30pm followed by dinner at 7pm. I am doing half portions so I still fit in my clothes at the end of the trip.

Again, great photos, Elsie. I love to follow your travels. Just curious….you have done so many OAT tours. Do you ever run into someone you remember from a previous trip?

Only my 8th trip with OAT or GCT. Never ran into anyone I knew. On Holland America, I have run into people from other cruises.
