May 28, 2019 – San Francisco
I took BART from Pleasanton to SF this morning and walked the mile to the pier. I could see the smoke stack of the ms Maasdam as I walked. I got my cabin keycard quickly and was on board by 11:40am. I took an upsell offer a few weeks ago so I am in a Neptune Suite rather than the inside room I originally reserved. I am including photos of the cabin.
After a quick lunch, I signed up for 2 chef’s dinners. I have been on this ship before and I don’t see many changes. It looks in good shape.
It was a busy afternoon with a cocktail party at 2pm. I attended the safety drill at 4pm and it was over quickly. The spa was running an embarkation special so before dinner I had a 75 minute massage. Aaaah!
I got to dinner and there were just 3 of us at a table for 6. We are assuming that many people were tired from flying in and tomorrow the dining room will be full.
After dinner I headed to the casino to try my luck. I am now ahead by $250 but am confident that I can lose it in the days ahead.
The next 2 days are sea days so I’ll try to come up with something to tell you about.

  2. Glad to read your blog again! We will be on the Maasdam in October. Did your TA contact you for the upsell?

  3. Looking forward to your posts. I really wanted to do this cruise but things just didn’t work out. I do hope they do the three week Alaska cruise in the future.

  4. Did you see the sunset as you left the GG? Your suite is enormous. So much room and luxury for one lady. Throw a party!

  5. Hi Elsie, I sailed with you on the 2013 Canada/East Coast on the Eurodam. IIRC, you had injured your leg/foot in the hotel just prior to boarding for our cruise. It’s nice to see you continuing your travels. I’ve since retired and am doing much the same. Last year I cruised/traveled 174 days. I’m going to be on your same cruise except I get on the Maasdam when you get off (June 18). Looking forward to reading all about the journey! Sherita
