May 31, 2019 – Ketchikan
When I woke up this morning I decided to look at what excursions were still available for today. I signed up for a Photographic Safari.
We put down anchor at 9:15am. Our ship is the only ship having to render in. Three other ships are docked and a fourth is expected.
I decided to do the Ketchikan Photo Safari. I met the guide in town by the tender stop at 11:15. Thirteen people were signed up and the van only held nine. We waited about 45 minutes while they arranged another guide to take 4 from our group. Finally at noon we took off. Our guide is a photographer. At each stop, he would explain the best way to take each shot. Mostly we took pictures of trees, plants, and totem poles. When we went to the dock area we were able to photograph bald eagles. Despite it raining all day, the tour was very good. I would recommend it to anyone interested in photography.
Got back to the ship at 4pm. Sailaway was at 6pm.
The entertainment tonight was Paul Pappas. I had seen him before on another cruise. He was really good.
Had trouble with internet last night but okay now.

  1. Thanks for sharing those great photos, Elsie. You would think that the ShorEx department would have everything together since this is their second Alaskan cruise in a row…with identical ports. Our excursion was cancelled the evening before arriving in Ketchikan…bummer. So we had a nice crab dinner at Annabelle’s. Another couple, he in a large electric wheel chair, were also dinning there. They had a fantastic view of all the ships moored at the dock. and watched to their utter surprise, as their ship, the Norwegian Bliss, sailed away at 12. They thought it would sail at midnight, not a noon.

  2. Loving your blog. I’m also amazed that Hal didn’t have enough transportation. I guess someone didn’t use their fingers and toes to count. I’m considering a cruise on the maasdam for next year so I’m especially interested. Thank you.

  3. Thanks again for taking us along on your latest adventure. Gray skies. Rain. Cool temperatures. Is Ketchikan a sister city to Rochester? 🤓 Nice that you were able to take the Photo Safari. BTW, what camera and lens(es) are you using? Is it the same gear you used on other recent journeys?
