June 1, 2019 – Sitka
As we sailed into Sitka the shy was gray with light showers. We docked 5 miles from the city center next to the Oceania Regatta.
The city has free buses from the port to the city center. My excursion paper work said to take the shuttle in and meet the tour at the shuttle stop in town at 10:30am. There were 9 of us waiting and luckily one was with the excursion department. At 11am he called the tour company. Turns out they were at the ship. We hopped on the next bus back to the ship. We were given waterproof pants and jacket to wear. We finally got going an hour late.
We rode in pouring rain to the Fin Island Lodge. They served us a lunch of crab, salmon, and prime ribs plus size dishes. After we finished we went outside to make s’mores at camp fire outside the lodge.
The rain let up for our s’more break but started up again when we got back in the zodiac. On the hour ride back to town, we saw some otters and bald eagles . Good excursion despite the late start. Unfortunately I didn’t take many photos because of the rain.
Once we sailed away from Sitka the rain stopped and the sun came out.
Tonight’s entertainment was a comedian. He was mildly funny
Tomorrow is Hubbard Glacier,

That big old majestic Bald Eagle is my favorite pic.
Are you enjoying the Alaskan experience differently the second time around?
