June 3, 2019 – Valdez
Our scheduled arrival time for Valdez was 2pm. I spent the morning at lectures and another cooking class.
At 1:45pm they announced we could get off the ship. The ship is moored 5 miles from the town. Free shuttle buses will take us into town. Unfortunately 90% of passengers decided to go off at the same time. The gangway is on deck 3 but the stairwells were packed all the way to deck 6. Elevators were packed. I decided to wait an hour since we’ll be here until 8pm.
At 3:15 PM I exited the ship and saw a long line of people and two school buses. After these buses left I made it on to the next bus. The driver asked if we wanted a tour before drop off and we said yes. She drove up and each street pointing out places of interest. She dropped us at the Valdez Information Center. I went to the Valdez museum and the Old Valdez Town Museum. Both were interesting and had information about the 1964 earthquake and tsnami. I didn’t feel like shopping so I skipped the shops and headed back on a 5pm bus.
For those on the next cruise, I really suggest you look at doing an excursion.
Tomorrow is scenic cruising through College Fjord.

  1. I don’t remember seeing the Prinsendam lifeboat when I was in Valdez. I assume its off the Prinsendam that sank in the Gulf of Alaska.
