June 5, 2019 – Homer
We were docked shortly before 8am. The sky was clear. Homer is surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Very beautiful.
The town had free shuttles to “The Spit”. The Spit is right on the water with shops, restaurants, and bars. They also had a $20 Hop On/Hop Off bus that went into town. I took the bus to the Spit and just walked around. There is a memorial for sailors lost at sea. I made the obligatory stop at the Salty Dawg Saloon. The ceiling and walls are covered in dollar bills that tourists have put up over the years.
Tonight I went to the Guest Chef’s Dinner. Wow, this dinner was worth the price. We started with Yellow Fin Tuna Crudo with a Sauvignon blanc. Next a spring corn bisque with chardonnay. First entree was halibut with a different chardonnay. Second entree was lamb with a Bordeaux and for dessert lemon custard with lemoncello. This was one of the best chef dinners that I have attended
Tomorrow is Anchorage where I’ll be on an excursion to Portage Glacier.
