February 19, 2020 – Bronnoysund
Peter gave a lecture on Norwegian fish this morning. Afterwards he showed us his Northern Lights pictures from last night. He will be giving us access to download his pictures when we get home.
When we crossed the Arctic Circle they had a different ceremony for southbound. If you drank a spoonful of cod liver oil, you got to keep the souvenir spoon. Yuk!
We got to Bronnoysund at 3pm and took an hour long walk around a lake. We have done a lot of walking g on this trip. Every day I have been getting at least 10,000 steps in.
The Captain’s farewell dinner was tonight. We each got a glass of champagne to toast with. The regular entree was cod. I had turkey.
February 20, 2020 – Trondheim
Today we got to port at 6:30am. Peter scheduled a walk through the city starting at 8am. He was surprised that 16 of our group of 19 went on the walk. One interesting thing we saw was where the city had blocked a canal and filled it with fresh water for ice skating. We walked almost 4 miles and got back to the ship 5 minutes before all aboard time.
At 11am, Peter had a meeting to let us know about disembarkation tomorrow and airport transfers on Saturday. As I suspected, I will be leaving the hotel at 3:30am for my 6:10am flight to Amsterdam. I have a 2 1/2 hour wait until my direct flight to SFO.
This will be my last entry until i get home. I highly recommend this tour as long as you can walk 3 miles and can handle the cold. Definitely buy slip on spikes before you leave.
I have done many OAT tours and this is my first Vantage. Since the tour was on a Hurtigruten ship with 600+ people not on our tour, I believe it can’t really be compared. I enjoy the OAT home visits and the guides talking about controversial subjects. This trip had none of that. Our guide was fantastic. Our group of 19 got along very well. I loved the tours and walks that we did.
Next trip is April to Egypt and Jordan with Vantage. In October I’ll be back with OAT to do The Back Roads of Spain and Portugal with my good friend Carolyn. I have also booked the Vantage December 2021 trip to South Georgia Island and Antarctica.
Thanks again for following my blog.

  1. FYI – I just got back from my trip to Egypt. The sights were awesome. Everybody had travelers diarrhea at one time or another. I provided Imodium to seven of our thirteen member group. Who travels to Egypt without Imodium?

I decided I won’t be doing anymore of these very long plane trips. And from now on I’ll be traveling business class for any trip longer than six hours!

Soon I too will be cruising down the west coast of the Atlantic on Hurtigruten.
