November 8-10, 2020
My brother-in-law, Donal, and I took a road trip up to Miranda, CA for a few days.
In 2012, my late husband’s family and I went to the redwoods to scatter Brian’s ashes. We stayed in cabins at Miranda Garden Resort. In 2020, my sister-in-law, Joyce, passed away. When I mentioned going to “visit” Brian, Donal asked to go along. Brian and Joyce were good friends and it seemed right for a little of Joyce to join Brian.
We got to Miranda right before 4pm. Cabin 7, which I had reserved, had 2 bedrooms and a full kitchen. It was cold but sunny when we checked in.
The next morning, we waited until 11am when the temperature reached 50 degrees to head out. We drove to Rockefeller Forest. I was happy to see they had repaved the 6 mile single lane road to the parking area. It used to be a very rough road.
We hiked around looking for a few good places. The forest was very quiet and serene. Just hiking around felt good for my soul and well being.
We headed back to the bay area the next morning. We both agreed that it was good to get away after all these months stuck at home. We met few people, all were masked and kept a good social distance.
I probably won’t do another trip until it is safe.
Keep healthy and sane.

Hi, Elsie. So glad you got to do this short trip. That cabin looks very nice.

I am happy that you and Donald were together to experience this healing place where You created sacred memories of Brian and Joyce. S.

So sorry to hear about Joyce’s passing but I remember you said she was ready to go. Your trip to the redwoods and the ritual seem quite lovely.
