October 11-12, 2021 SFO to Heathrow to Lisbon

October 11-12, 2021 San Francisco to London to Lisbon
Our flight to London left SFO at 4:30pm. We had arrived at the airport shortly after 1pm before the check-in lines were even open. At 1:30pm we had our paperwork for the UK and Portugal, our covid tests, and our vaccination cards checked and set off for the business class lounge with tickets in hand. The lounge had a direct entry to the skyway so boarding was painless. Carolyn’s window seat faced the back of the plane while mine faced forward. There was little storage area by our seats so everything had to go in the overhead space.
By 6pm we were served dinner and by 8pm I had flattened my seat to sleep. When I woke, I changed my watch to London time and it was 6 am. I had slept 2 hours. I put on a movie and slept on and off until 9am when they started breakfast service. We each only slept 3 or 4 hours in total last nIght.
We landed on time. We made it through arrivals having to only scan our boarding cards for Lisbon. The security check slowed us down when one of us didn’t have liquids and lotions out of their bag in a clear bag.
We had 4 1/2 hours until our next flight so we found the lounge and relaxed. Our final flight from Heathrow to Lisbon left a little late but arrived on time. Business class on flights within Europe means regular economy seats with a tray covering the middle seat. We were served cocktails and dinner.
Our bags came off quickly and we found our driver. Due to a protest over reducing bike lanes in Lisbon. It took almost an hour to get to our hotel rather than the normal 20 minutes. We got to see many aspects of the citywide weaving our way to the hotel.
I had booked a superior room for us but OAT only uses standard rooms. Tomorrow we will leave our lovely room. We were pleasantly surprised to find sparkling wine and chocolate cake when we got to our room. We have decided to skip eating another meal today and try to get to sleep early tonight.
